PRESENTE SIMPLE: Oraciones afirmativas

 PRESENT  SIMPLE TENSE  

The simple present tense  is used to describe habits, repeated actions ,unchanging situations, general truths, emotions, wishes and fixed arrangements. The simple present tense is simple to form. Just use the base form of the verb: (I take, you take, we take, they take) The only change from the base is the addition of s for third person singular (he takes, she takes).

Examples:

• To express habits or unchanging situations:

I smoke cigarette (habit); I work in London (unchanging situation); 

• To give instructions or directions:

You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left.

• To express fixed arrangements:

Your exam starts at 09.00

En síntesis,  podemos utilizar el presente simple para hablar de hábitos o  rutinas.

HOW DO WE MAKE THE PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE?

There is a  basic  structure  for  the Simple Present Tense in first and second persons  (I,you,we,they) :

Para elaborar oraciones en presente simple necesitamos de la anterior estructura ⬆
Examples:

They (Subject) Play (Verb) Piano (Complement).
Juan , peter and I (Subject) eat 
(Verb) Pizza (Complement).

Normally in the present tense we add S to the end of the verb in the 3rd person (He, She, It).

• He speaks three languages.
• She drinks coffee every morning.

Para hacer oraciones con las terceras personas (he,she,it) conservamos la misma estructura con una modificación, al final delverbo le agregamos s .

English Grammar Rules

Irregular verbs in English in the present tense follow very simple rules. The only change that is made to these verbs is in the third person – for He, She or It.

1. If the verb ends in SS, X, CH, SH or the letter O, we add + ES in the third person.

• A mechanic fixes cars.
• She watches soap operas every afternoon.
• He kisses his wife before he goes to work.

Sin embargo, existen algunas reglas gramaticales de acuerdo a la terminación del verbo: si el verbo termina en ss, o, x, ch,  o en  sh, agregamos es al verbo ⬆; 

 2. If the verb ends in a Consonant + Y, we remove the Y and + IES in the third person.

• Isabel studies every night.
• The baby cries all the time.
• He denies all responsibility.

pero si el verbo termina en y y antes hay una consonante, eliminamos la y  y agregamos ies al verbo ⬆.
